Water Filtration

Jacksonville’s municipal water is moderately hard and carries a noticeable chlorine taste, and many homes want an added layer of purity for drinking and cooking on top of that. Rather than juggling separate vendors, Sweeney Plumbing designs and installs water softeners, whole-house carbon filtration, and reverse osmosis systems, alone or combined, so your water is treated exactly how your household needs it.

Signs Your Jacksonville Home Needs Water Treatment

Different water problems show up in different ways. White, chalky buildup on faucets and showerheads, soap that will not lather, and spotty dishes are signs of hard water. A chlorine smell at the tap or in the shower, water that tastes slightly off, or fine sediment in a glass left standing point to a filtration need. If your drinking water still is not quite right even with a whole-house filter in place, or your household relies on bottled water for cooking and drinking, that is a sign reverse osmosis would help.

Dry skin and dull hair after bathing can stem from either hard water or chlorine exposure, and many Jacksonville homes deal with a combination of both. We assess your household’s specific water and recommend the system, or combination of systems, that actually solves it.

Water Softener Systems

A water softener uses an ion exchange process to remove the calcium and magnesium responsible for scale buildup in pipes, water heaters, and appliances. Treating water at the main line means every fixture in the house benefits: less soap and detergent needed, spot-free dishes and glassware, and softer skin and hair. Properly sized to your household’s water hardness and usage, a softener also extends the life of your water heater and other appliances by keeping mineral scale from building up inside them. Whole-House Carbon Filtration

Whole-house carbon filtration uses activated carbon media to remove chlorine, chloramine, sediment, and the compounds behind taste and odor issues, treating water as it enters your home rather than at a single tap. Most systems pair a sediment pre-filter with the carbon tank to extend media life and hold water pressure steady during peak use. The result is cleaner-tasting water at every fixture, less chlorine exposure while showering, and better results washing dishes and clothes. Reverse Osmosis Systems

Reverse osmosis forces water through a semi-permeable membrane fine enough to remove dissolved solids and other microscopic contaminants that carbon filtration alone does not catch. Most households choose an under-sink RO system focused on drinking and cooking water, paired with a dedicated faucet, since that is where water quality matters most day to day. A whole-home RO configuration is also available for households that want that level of purification at every tap. You may also be interested in our kitchen plumbing services.

Why Professional Installation Matters, and Why These Systems Work Well Together

Each of these systems needs to be sized correctly for your home’s flow rate and household usage, whether that is a softener’s resin tank, a carbon filter’s media volume, or an RO system’s membrane and storage tank. Our team calculates the right equipment for your home, ties into your main water line or under-sink plumbing correctly, and tests everything before we leave. That is a different outcome than a store-bought kit, which commonly leads to leaks, incorrect sizing, or a system that never performs as advertised.

Because we install all three technologies, we can also combine them: a softener to solve hardness, a whole-house carbon filter to handle chlorine and odor, and an under-sink RO system for the cleanest possible drinking and cooking water. Frequently Asked Questions

How much does water softener installation cost in Jacksonville?

Cost depends on system size, your home’s water hardness, and installation complexity. We provide a firm, upfront quote after a brief home assessment.

Do I need a water softener if I already have a whole-house filter?

They solve different problems. A filter improves taste, odor, and sediment; a softener removes the minerals causing scale. Many Jacksonville homes benefit from both.

How often does whole-house carbon filter media need to be replaced?

Most systems need media replacement every 6 to 12 months depending on household water usage and water quality, and we can set you up on a maintenance schedule.

Will a carbon filter remove hardness from my water?

No. Carbon filtration targets chlorine, odor, taste, and sediment. If hardness is also a concern, we recommend pairing it with a water softener.

How much does reverse osmosis installation cost?

Cost depends on whether you choose an under-sink or whole-home system and any additional plumbing needed. We provide a firm quote after a brief assessment.

Does reverse osmosis remove healthy minerals from water?

RO membranes remove dissolved solids broadly, including some minerals. Many homeowners find the tradeoff worthwhile for the taste and purity improvement, and remineralization stages are available if preferred.
